Fashion World

There are very few luxury fashion brands on a global scale that declare their dedication to sustainability, conservation, and commitment to producing zero waste, but who are doing it. LILYSILK, whose motto is ‘Not all silk is created equal,’ is a real leader in this movement to convert the fashion industry from being a second largest polluter in the world after petroleum and the second-largest consumer of the world’s water supply into an environmentally friendly force that helps to create a sustainable future for our planet. It is no surprise that LILYSILK became an exemplary brand that supports several critical causes, such as the fight against breast cancer, by continuing its partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF), which is inspiring people to live spectacular, sustainable lives, teaming up with world’s most influential celebrities such as Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and TV host Kelly Clarkson.

Interview by Yuliya Suleymanova. Seattle, WA – Sun Valley ID. I have been planning an interview with Carole McClellan, an American designer noted for using leather and repurposed fur for quite a while. I was trying to remember how long we’ve known each other. I believe it has been 15 years. Time flies! I have experienced the luxury of having Carole design several unique pieces. Carole has been an incredible mentor for me. I would always seek advice from Carole on either producing a fashion show, consulting on the teaching material for my fashion marketing and branding courses, working with local fashion designers, or asking her to share fashion industry knowledge and expertise on the fashion discussion panel at the Fashion Group International, Seattle Chapter.

Traditional Vietnamese art has a very long and rich history, which is going back as far as 10,000 years to the times of the Stone Age. Starting in the 2nd century BC, Vietnam fell under the millennium of Chinese domination, which deeply influenced Vietnamese arts and culture and we can see that influence continued and started to really flourish after the independence from China in the 10th century AD and through the centuries. Beginning in the 1860s and until the 1970s, was a period in Vietnamese history that brought strong influence of French art under colonial rule. Despite such heavy impact from various foreign powers, Vietnamese art preserved and retained its unique and distinctive character and style, especially the art of silk painting, which has been a big part of Vietnamese culture for ages.

Vancouver, BC: Ninety-six African elephants die from poaching every day. That adds up to 35,000 elephants a year. At this rate elephants will be extinct in 8 years. Elephantasia, a unique, pachyderm-inspired fashion collection by 12 international designers aims to bring conservation into couture. This travelling exhibition will raise awareness and funds for the African elephants killed for their ivory and their babies suddenly orphaned as a result.
