Guitarist/Producer Jake Morelli, sideman-no-more steps into the spotlight with soulful debut single “Memory” ft Nahla Bee via D-Tone Victorious.

Philadelphia, PA - Jan 15, 2021 - Jake Morelli, a 3rd generation musician originally from NY (now living in Philly), has worked with some of today's top artists: Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, The Roots, Jonas Brothers & Roberta Flack to name a few. When not producing music for various artists and companies from his brother-in-law Questlove’s Philly studio, Jake is about that “road” life. Last year things came to a dramatic halt. While on tour in Dubai and working for Quincy Jones, quarantine hit, leaving him stranded in his hotel room for 3 months.

Jake remembers, “On a dime, the music game shifted, the whole hustle changed. There is an exchange of energy that happens “live” with an audience but, now we’d have to think outside the box.”

Remembering his late grandfather Jack’s resilience, a drummer who also served in The Infantry, kept him afloat. Bedtime stories Jack had shared with him as a kid, of walking from one end of Italy to the other in harrowing times, came to mind and motivated Jake as the weeks strung together. Creating music daily and mixing his single, “Memory” shortened Jake’s days in The UAE. He even launched The Good News Giveaway, which helps artists in need of gear connect to boutique companies around the world who want to donate. It was a way to infiltrate the pandemic with positivity.

Featured singer, lyricist, and social media influencer Nahla Bee is a native of Danbury Connecticut. She is most noted for her positive imaging and for her So Gone Challenge which went viral. On an appearance on The Real Talk Show, she was recognized for her ability to inspire millennials to love themselves first.

Philly’s own keyboardist Irv Washington (J Cole, John Legend), drummer Chuck Treece (Bad Brains, Billy Joel) and Maryland bassist Kinard Cherry (Raheem DeVaughn) are also featured on the soulful offering. “Memory” is a journey through the past with vision towards the future.

Hope you remember the days of triumph of the mighty US label Shrapnel Records — not only the first American metal label but, far more importantly, a kind of springboard for quite a number of guitar talents all over the US and the world. With a string of albums of such great players as Tony MacAlpine and Paul Gilbert (as a member of Racer X), that label and its boss Mike Varney, a good guitar player himself, wrote the modern rock formula of what an instrumental album of the 80s and 90s should be.

Sadly, such kinds of albums of little-known or even unknown guitar virtuosos are nowadays extremely rare, but a debut solo CD by Ukrainian musician and producer John Ivan Belousov has all the generic traits of those Shrapnel Records of old. Raised on a heavy diet of Yngwie Malmsteen and, eh, aforementioned US shredders, John was once a candidate for one of the last “true” line-ups of the legendary Russian thrash metal institution Master, although his own band Bestia, based in the city of Nikolaev in Ukraine, played a pure US power/speed metal and drew many comparisons with Racer X (again!) even back in the 90s.
