Every three years since 2006, the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery presents “The Outwin: American Portraiture Today,” dedicated to praising modern portraiture artists from all over the United States and beyond. The highly anticipated artist list and prizewinners from the seventh triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition have been unveiled after a thorough juried selection to be showcased at the “The Outwin 2025: American Portraiture Today” exhibition. The seven-person jury nominated 35 portraits by 36 artists, drawn from an impressive pool of over 3,300 entries that capture the breadth of the nation's creative expression. Artists from 14 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico bring forth a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, emphasizing the gallery’s commitment to exploring contemporary American identity through portraiture.
